About Sagadahoc County, Maine

Sagadahoc County, Maine is situated in the northernmost part of the state and is home to more than 35,000 residents. Covering an area of just over 350 square miles, it consists of seven townships: Bath, Georgetown, Phippsburg, West Bath, Woolwich, Arrowsic and Richmond.
Home to several historic lighthouses and other maritime sites along its coastline that stretch along the Kennebec River and Casco Bay, Sagadahoc County offers breathtaking views at every turn.

At the helm of keeping the county’s citizens safe is Sheriff Joel Merry. Sheriff Merry has served in law enforcement for nearly 20 years and has been with the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office since 2016. His commitment to public safety shows in his work ethic as he strives to create a safe environment for everyone who lives or visits in Sagadahoc County. Most recently, he worked with local school districts on a grant program that funded technology for classrooms aimed at increasing student safety and security.

Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office

The sheriff’s office has many different divisions including patrol operations which are responsible for responding to emergency 911 calls, conducting daily patrols throughout the county, investigating crimes and assisting with criminal investigations by providing crime scene analysis.
The department also has a special operations division which focuses on drug interdiction operations as well as search-and-rescue operations during emergencies or catastrophic events such as floods or hurricanes.
There are divisions dedicated to animal control services; marine unit enforcement; coroner investigations; court services; civil process service dispatch services; neighborhood watch programs; bomb squad activities; crisis management team response efforts; community outreach programs; senior citizen protection initiatives; juvenile diversion programs; schools resource officers working within local educational facilities ; public awareness campaigns related to crime prevention activities ; SWAT team operations ; and much more .
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office also takes pride in offering education opportunities for citizens. They provide seminars on topics such as internet safety , substance abuse education , cyber bullying prevention , child passenger seat laws , recognition of domestic violence.
They also hold annual National Night Out events which bring together communities from across the county where attendees can interact with local law enforcement personnel while enjoying food and entertainment.
